How can I put my commercial VHS tapes onto DVD? - commercial tape weighted shower curtains

I have a VHS to DVD recorder, but do not copy all commercial movies from VHS to DVD. I bought the machine to move in particular for my collection of DVDs and VHS tapes, the gap, but no luck - is it possible that "ownership" of the VHS tape copy (I know it can not strictly legal, but only for personal Consumption - No, I do not buy all new VHS movies, only because it will be soon!). Help!
